Homelessness is a devastating experience for families. It disrupts virtually every aspect of family life, damaging the physical and emotional health of family members, interfering with children’s education and development, and frequently resulting in the separation of family members. One of the fastest growing segments of the homeless population is families with children. A 2005 study revealed that of the counted homeless population there were 98,452 homeless families, making up 41% of the entire homeless population. Research indicates that families, single mothers, and children make up the largest group of people who are homeless in rural areas. Approximately 924,000 children are homeless, and in 1995, 4.2% of children under the age of one year were homeless. Homeless families are most commonly headed by single mothers in their late 20s with approximately two children.

The Sister’s of Style and Salon Niquel takes this issue to heart; a portion of our proceeds will be donated to a local Family Center in Queens New York. A list will be provided to the Sisters of Style of things that the children of the Family Center needs.
